It’s not every day that I get to document the first day home for my friend’s adorable little one. We had originally planned that I would be there for some in hospital photos just after he was born. So as it got closer and then eventually days past her due date, Jaci or Ben were going to text me once contractions started so I could get my butt to Portland. But as things got started I heard a little here and there but things were slow and I worried something was wrong. We called off me coming that day as labor went on for hours and hours and hours. I was, of course, nervous for everyone so I just sat by my phone waiting to hear, hoping for the best. Eventually a text came through onto a group chain showing a photo of the exhausted and beautiful Jaci and the giant and adorable Calvin. The photo was followed by just the weight, 10lb 4oz. It all made sense, OF COURSE labor was taking forever she was having a 10 pound baby!! Holy cow! Ben rightfully made the call to have me come take photos the next day since I can only imagine how little energy everyone had for photos at that late hour.
When I did make it to Portland I was shocked just how big, absolutely adorable and chill this little guy was. He just wanted to nap, yawn, chill and nap some more. It was truly incredible seeing my friends begin this huge new adventure and to set off on what will be an amazing new path in life. It’s wild to see two people I’ve known for so long be such happy and amazing parents! I just know Calvin will grow up to be a remarkable, super fun and very tall guy!
