Christmas is that one time of the year I break my rules and photograph families and kids. I’ve found over the years that photographing families can get exhausting and that I am completely out of my element when it comes to kids, especially toddlers and babies! Having said that, I love to make the exception for special families around Christmas time. It makes each shoot an adventure and completely new to me.
With this particular shoot, we had planned for a 30-45 minute mini session but the second we got out of the cars it was determined that 10-15 was all that we could handle. It was cold, scratch that, it was freezing and windy and COLD! So everyone put on their biggest ‘I’m not cold’ smiles and braved the wind for some fantastic photos! The key to getting photos in a less than ideal situation is to keep moving, keep talking and don’t let anyone get bored or idle. We took breaks to run around, get warm and when posing moved fast and thought warm thoughts. It’s hard to hid the cold and the wind whipped hair, but the Yates family rocked it!
